the perfect {hybrid} chocolate chip cookie

Here’s the story:

One of my baking-loving friends posted on Facebook recently that she’d tried both Brown Eyed Baker and Pioneer Woman’s recipes for chocolate chip cookies.  She and her taste-testers agreed that the Brown Eyed Baker cookies had better texture, while the Pioneer Woman cookies had better flavor.  So you know what I had to do then, right?

Yup, I combined the two recipes in an attempt to create the perfect chocolate chip cookie.  You can see my (scientific and methodical, ha!) recipe notes right there under those YUMMY cookies…

The results were amazing.  Big, chewy, delicious cookies, that even Eric couldn’t stop eating.  (And he’s not typically a big fan of sweets!)

*Perfect {Hybrid} Chocolate Chip Cookies*

2 1/4 c. flour

3/4 tsp. baking soda

3/4 tsp. salt

3/4 c. butter, melted and cooled

1 c. brown sugar

1/4 c. white sugar

2 eggs

2 tsp. vanilla extract

1 c. semisweet chocolate chips

3/4 c. milk chocolate chips

1 T. flax meal (optional)

Preheat oven to 325 degrees.  Lightly grease a cookie sheet (or two if you have them.)  In a medium bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt.  In a separate large bowl, beat the (melted and cooled) butter with the sugars until thoroughly combined.  Beat in the eggs and vanilla.  Add the dry ingredients and mix until combined.  Stir in the chocolate chips and flax meal, if desired.  Chill the dough for 30 minutes or so.

Scoop out approximately 2-3 tablespoons of dough and roll into a ball.  Place on greased cookie sheet and flatten ever so slightly.  (At this point, I like to have an extra half-cup of chocolate chips handy so I can stick a few onto the top of the dough.  It makes the cookies look that much more appealing!)  Space the balls of dough at least 2 inches apart to allow for spreading while they cook.

Bake the cookies 13-15 minutes, depending on how gooey you want the finished product to be.  Allow the cookies to cool at least 5 minutes on the sheet before removing them to a wire rack.

If you try them, please let me know what you think!

So, I used your recipe for thank you cookies to a friend. I thought they were delish, and the recipients were chowing down on them before I was out of the driveway. Big fan. 🙂

Yay, glad you and your friends liked them! I like them a little *too* much so I have to give them away when I make a batch. 🙂
